OUR TWO-CENTRE short break allows you to combine the thrill of journeying through the Arctic wilderness drawn by your own team of dogs, with exploring a lively and fashionable Scandinavian city. You'll take care of your own team of dogs and help prepare meals by an open fire and spend one night sleeping in a simple wilderness cabin. Also, explore Tromsø, Norway's cool northern city.

Departures: From Gatwick
Dates: January 2010 to March 2010

4 Night Itinerary:

Day 1

Your flight leaves Gatwick around 2000, arriving in Tromsø at around 0040, followed by a transfer to Karesuando, arriving at the Davvi Arctic Lodge at around 0600. Room allocations will be completed during your coach journey, allowing for a swift check-in and straight to bed!

Day 2

After breakfast, you are provided with your included all-in-one thermal suits and boots. Please note that hats, scarves and gloves are also necessary but are not included. You will meet the dogs and receive instruction on their care and how to handle the sled before departing on your expedition. You will spend the majority of the day with the dogs, including several hours traveling to a wilderness cabin. Your first priority is to care for your hard­working dogs. You will want to unharness them and settle them down, providing them with a well-deserved meal. Please note that wilderness cabins are, by their very nature, basic. There is no electricity or running water. Facilities are basic, with bunk beds and an outside toilet. Light is provided by candles. You must be prepared to share the cabin with other members of your group. As a group, you all help cook supper on the cabin's wood-burning stove before turning in for the night in sleeping bags you have carried with you on your expedition.

Day 3

In the morning, everybody takes care of their own dogs, again ensuring they are well fed and watered before being harnessed up again. Breakfast is prepared together and you set out on the second leg of your adventure, returning in the late afternoon to the Davvi Arctic Lodge, where dinner will be especially welcome!

Day 4

After breakfast, you make the return journey to Tromsø, arriving around 1430, when you will have a short walking tour of the city, which is steeped in Arctic history. You visit the Polaria museum and aquarium where the main attraction is the bearded seals. Your hotel is the three-star Clarion Collection Hotel With, by the waterside, where you'll enjoy dinner.

You may decide to venture into town (walking distance) where there are numerous bars. Or you may decide to upgrade to another of our hotels, where you can have dinner (at extra cost) or immerse yourself in Tromsø's nightlife.

Day 5

You check out from your hotel early at 0530 for your 0630 return flight to the UK, arriving at around 0910.
