The Aurora Borealis:

Considered to be one of the seven natural wonders of the world, the Northern Lights are a spontaneous and mesmerising swirling light show that dances across the sky at night. As long as the skies are dark and clear they can be seen at any time from Lapland resorts. Some years they appear more frequently than others and if you are lucky enough to see them they are an experience you will never forget.

Lapland in the winter is magical, a scenic winter wonderland located deep inside the Arctic Circle and blanketed in snow. Reindeer far outnumber people here, the snow-laden trees form bizarre sculptures in a vast and silent landscape and at night the mesmerising Northern Lights shimmer in the moonlight.

Reindeer Safari & Farm Visit (6km)
A very scenic 1 hour drive to a genuine Sami reindeer farm. Feed the reindeer, learn lassooing, hear about their way of life and take a scenic 6km sleigh ride. (Trip takes 3.5 hours)

Snowmobile Safari (25km)
An exhilirating ride through breathtaking arctic scenery. Locally you can request the evening "Northern Lights" trip.

Husky Super-Safari (12km)
15min drive to local husky farm including talk about husky life with coffee in a Kota and a memorable scenic sleigh ride.

Yllas Log CabinIdyllic, high-quality modern log cabins, romantically dotted around the woods, 500-800m from Äkäs or Kaltio Hotel where guests eat their meals. The ski bus stops 200-400m away. Excellent cross-country skiing from the door.

An overnight stay in the SnowHotel is a unique and memorable experience. It includes a guided tour of the Snow Village which itself is an awesome sight.

Its walls are made entirely of snow and beautiful ice sculptures adorn its rooms, courtyards, ice bar, restaurant and Ice Chapel. Guests are provided with high quality arctic thermal sleeping bags, shower and toilet facilities, room wake-up call with hot berry juice and buffet breakfast in a warm log restaurant and a diploma of overnight stay.

The annual construction of the Snow Village begins when the temperature drops about ten degrees below zero which is usually at the end of october or the beginning of november. Approximately 1,5 million kilos of snow and 300 000 kilos of crystal clear, natural ice are used for the construction. The constructors, specialized in using snow and ice as building material, are constantly developing new tools and instruments for snow construction and exploring innovative ways of taking this artform into new levels.

Snow Village is built entirely of snow and ice covering approximately an area of 20 000 square metres. During the winter season there are about 3000 square metres of covered indoor spaces built as a combination of different snow and ice structures. The architectural design and the themes of interior decoration vary from year to year offering always a unique experience. Visitors can find in there for example the biggest ice dome of Europe and an á la carte restaurant with ice carved tables and bar, in addition to amazing snow galleries full of beautifully illuminated ice art.
